Biography

"It's very scary to me that people actually think we should just follow our leaders. If we can't learn from our history, we're nowhere." — Natalie Maines

  • Members: Natalie Maines, Emily Robison, Martie Maguire
  • Formed 1989 in Dallas, Texas
  • Founded as a bluegrass band, Dixie Chicks released Wide Open Spaces, their major label debut with their current lineup, in 1998. That year, the band sold more CDs than all other country music groups combined. The album included three No. 1 country hits: "There's Your Trouble," "You Were Mine" and the title track.
  • Dixie Chicks earned their first career GRAMMYs for 1998 for Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal ("There's Your Trouble") and Best Country Album (Wide Open Spaces). The trio made their GRAMMY stage debut at the 42nd GRAMMY Awards in 2000, performing "Goodbye Earl."
  • Did you know? The Dixie Chicks have won Best Country Album four times: Wide Open Spaces (1998), Fly (1999), Home (2002), and Taking The Long Way (2006).
  • The band helped salute MusiCares Person of the Year James Taylor in 2006, and did the same for Carole King in 2014. The annual Person of the Year gala raises funds for MusiCares, which provides services and resources that cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies for music people.
  • Dixie Chicks are an ardent supporter of Conservation International. The band appeared with Toby Keith in Al Gore's We Campaign in 2008 to raise awareness about climate change.
